Frequently asked questions

What is marketing automation?

Marketing automation refers to email and SMS marketing messages that automatically trigger when a customer has completed a certain action. For example, when a customer abandons their cart, they will receive a cart reminder email. Marketing automation is a strategic way to keep customers engaged with your brand, giving them a personalised journey based on their actions. Unlike campaigns, automations continuously send to customers once they’ve been set up. It’s a smart way to constantly generate revenue with little input once the automation is live.

Why are repeat customers important?

Simply put – acquisition costs around 5x more than retention. Constantly acquiring new customers is an expensive exercise, whereas nurturing existing subscribers into loyal customers costs significantly less. Repeat customers account for between 40 and 60% of total revenue, spending on average around 60% more than first time customers. Repeat customers are vital to a brand’s success — they help to create brand credibility. If a brand has a low rate of return customers, it shows little confidence in the product.

Do you offer strategy-only projects?

Yes, as well as complete project delivery, we also offer strategy-only solutions. You will be assigned an experienced Account Manager to craft a bespoke strategy based on your goals. Whether that be to encourage more repeat purchases, decrease cart abandonment, or generate more UGC. Included in strategy-only projects is:
- Strategy document including flow chart and message outlines
- Email and SMS briefs (that can be given to your creative team to produce)
- Flow chart build in your ESP (e.g. Klaviyo)

What’s included in an end-to-end project?

When working with REP. to deliver a project (whether that be an email automation, series of campaigns, or a loyalty program for example) our team is responsible for:
- Strategy
- Creative briefs
- Copy
- Design
- Design QA
- Build
- Build QA
- Set live
- Post-live checks

We’re experts at what we do, so we will deliver the complete project with your approval at key steps along the way. Once we have crafted the strategy, we will seek your approval before progressing to the next stage. Once designs (including copy) have been put together and reviews internally, we will send over for your input and/or approval. We will also send previews of the builds for your approval before setting these live.

Do you offer hours-based retainers?

Yes, we do. If you’d like to work with an hours-based retainer instead of a set project, we can accommodate. These hours-based retainers are suited to clients who wish to use REP. for weekly email campaigns, optimising existing flows, account cleanup, or simply working on tasks as they pop up.

Is email marketing a good strategy?

Email marketing is a great strategy to use to nurture subscribers into first time customers, and encourage repeat purchases throughout their lifetime. Email marketing uses owned media i.e. the list of people who have subscribed to receive marketing messages. This means as a brand, you have complete control over this list as you “own” it.

Do you do email campaigns?

Yes, we do! We can manage your email campaigns from creative through to build and scheduling. Email campaigns should account for roughly 40% of total revenue, compared to automations which should sit higher at 60%. Our team can create your weekly campaigns, as well as craft strategies for special events including product or collection launches, sales events, or special offers.

What’s an effective SMS strategy?

Having SMS consent from your customers is a privilege — so an SMS strategy needs to be well thought out to not intrude on the subscriber’s time. This is why we recommend sending SMS strategically to make the biggest impact. For example, we wouldn’t send customers an initial cart reminder through SMS as this would be more effective as an email. However, if a customer has 24 hours left to use a discount code to complete their purchase, we would recommend sending an SMS reminder as the message is time-sensitive. SMS marketing is an effective way to communicate with customers as it receives immediate attention and garners high open and click rates. However, misusing SMS can lead to a high unsubscribe rate, which is why it’s important to only use SMS for important messages.

How can I grow my email list?

We recommend growing your email marketing list through a series of data capture forms (also known as pop-ups). Pop-ups often get a bad rap as “annoying”; however this is because the strategy behind them hasn’t been given much thought. At REP., we craft well thought out data capture strategies that target different groups at set points in their journey. As such, we create these forms with personalised messaging to appeal to these different website visitors. We never set pop-ups to display immediately when landing on a website — a common mistake we see brands make. We allow visitors to browse the website for a set amount of time before displaying the relevant pop-up, as we see much higher engagement rates this way due to less disruption.

I’m not sure where to start. Can you give recommendations?

Of course! We will begin by auditing your account to give our recommendations for areas to focus on. We will take a look at the data capture points you have in place, existing email and SMS automations, plus campaigns and their performance. We will also take a look at your tech stack and assess how you’re using it within your email and SMS marketing.
